SHSA’s Consulting Philosophy

SHSA’s consulting philosophy is based on the principle that health and safety must be treated as a strategic business issue and that all injuries are preventable. We promote ZERO injuries as the only way to work and do business.

A Company that is committed to provide a safe work environment for every employee is paramount. The management system must consider its good safety record a reflection of its success in its business plan and understand that health and safety are an integral part of quality control, cost reduction and job efficiency. At SHSA:

  • We evaluate and analyze accident/claims data, policies and procedures to understand why your business is experiencing accidents
  • Based on our findings, we work with our members to guide and develop strategic safety and claims management plans that help our members move toward ZERO injuries
  • We deliver in-house supervisory/employee training to compliment implementation of the safety strategy and plan
  • We provide networking opportunities by providing seminars and workshops

Training and Education

SHSA is dedicated to provide safety and claims management training for the service and hospitality industry in Saskatchewan . We are committed to deliver valuable, accessible learning experiences to all the people we serve. At SHSA:

  • We work with our members and our Board of Directors to assess the needs of the people we serve.
  • Before we develop a new resource, we shop the market to find out if there is an existing product that will meet our members’ needs. This helps to eliminate duplication of efforts and saves time and money for our members.
  • When we develop a training module, we rely on member feedback to determine if it is meeting their needs. We continually review our training modules to improve and modify our training to meet our members’ needs and will tailor our training for individual members. We are committed to deliver training in a time sensitive way, understanding our industry is fast paced and recognize it is oftentimes difficult releasing employees for lengthy periods of time.
  • We provide quality resource materials.
  • As a team, SHSA is committed to program excellence that not only meets legislative requirements of our members but that also addresses the unique business practices of our members.
  • For a description of the training SHSA provides, click here. We will deliver these workshops in-house and will also offer them periodically throughout the province. Each trainee receives a copy of presentation materials.

Research and Consultation

SHSA strives to be knowledgeable and conversant on the various pieces of legislation and regulation that our members are confronted with and must adhere to. At SHSA:

  • We conduct research for our members on various safety issues that present themselves and provide recommendations and solutions to resolve problems.
  • Work with our members to help them understand and address health and safety and Workers’ Compensation issues.
  • Co-ordinate external training to meet our members’ needs i.e. back training conducted by professionals in the healthcare and fitness fields.
  • Provide regulatory information services.

“On behalf of Commissionaires Saskatchewan, I would like to thank you and your staff for the help and assistance you have provided to us as we attempt to make the work place as safe as it can be for our employees. I think that it is a testimony to your effectiveness and the esteem in which we regard you, that we have asked for your help on no fewer than three separate occasions in the past year. The time that you spent with my office staff; our Division’s Supervisor’s Seminar and our National Supervisor’s Course was all positively received by those present. You helped to remind us that safety is everyone’s business and that if we can stay focused on work place safety then we need not expect that injuries are an inevitable part of doing business. Thanks again and well done.”
