Contest Winners

Special thanks to the Regina Catholic School Division and the 26 elementary schools involved with this years Youth Safety Education Day Safety Poster and Paragraph contest! This year, we decided to extend our activities for Youth Safety Education Day! We created a Safety Poster contest for kindergarten to grade 5 and a Safety Paragraph contest for grades 6-8 which saw 8,000 students participate! The winners received a customized gift basket packed full of exciting items!

The poster contest was created for students in kindergarten to grade 5, to challenge the younger students to illustrate on a poster, what hazards they need to look out for, and the safe choices they need to make in order to protect themselves in that particular setting. The students created posters that illustrated how they would stay safe either at home, at school or at play. We judged the poster contest on the type of safety scenario drawn, safety gear used, hazards identified, along with neat drawing and coloring.

Students wrote about bullying, hazards such as slips and falls, internet safety, and types of injuries or accidents that could occur at school. We judged this portion of the contest by the safety scenario, safety gear used, hazards identified, along with their grammar and organization.
