COR Program

Certification of Recognition (COR) is Available

The Service & Hospitality Safety Association (SHSA) has worked hard with the Joint Industry Committee (JIC)* and the Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association on a safety program that will be recognized by all industries in Saskatchewan. This will not only help our members to reduce injuries, but allow them to cross over into other industries as well.

Our Certification of Recognition (COR) program is available to any of our members who want to take the next step in safety.

Program Requirements:

1. Claims Management
   • The person most directly responsible for claims must complete and have updated once every three years
2. Supervisor Training
   • All front line supervisors must take this training have this updated once every three years
3. Safety Management Systems
   • The general manager must take this training one time only
4. Incident Investigation
   • All front line supervisors and the members of the safety committee must take this training and have it updated once every three years
5. Hazard ID & Control
   • All front line supervisors and the members of the safety committee must take this training and have it updated once every three years
6. Safe Work Practices and Procedures
   • All front line supervisors and the members of the safety committee must take this training and have it updated once every three years
7. Auditor Training
   • No requirements

In all cases, training delivered by other associations or delivered internally will be considered for equivalency.  The SHSA does offer a refresher course for training updates which covers the update to #2, #4, #5 and #6 all in one session.

Certification will be given when all elements of the program have been implemented properly and will be determined by SHSA Safety Advisor through an external audit. For more information click here to view the SHSA COR QA document.

After certification has been achieved, the internal auditor for a company must submit annual internal audits to SHSA showing compliance with the COR program, with the exception of every three years in which SHSA must conduct an external audit.

Many of our members may not be ready or do not feel that this program is for them. Therefore, we will continue to offer our Safety Evaluation which is geared towards members just starting to implement their own safety programs.

If you are interested in either program, we will be pleased to meet with you and explain your options. Our safety training and programs are offered to our members for little or no charge.
