Grade 6-Safety at Home,School and while Socializing

Did you know?

Young people ages 12 to 19 had the highest likelihood of injury. More than one-quarter (27%) of this age group suffered an injury, almost twice the proportion of adults (14%) and three times the proportion of seniors (9%).– Stats Canada

Youth (ages 15-24) are three times more likely to be injured on the job than any other worker. -WCB Saskatchewan

Overall, falls were the leading cause of injury. About 63% of seniors and one-half of adolescents were injured in falls, as were 35% of working-age adults. -Stats Canada

Prevention is the key to reducing youth injuries, whether the injury occurs at home, school or in the workplace.   To help, we created an educational safety presentation specifically for grade 6 students to teach them how to be safe in their own environment.

The presentation is intended to be used as a lesson in the career education curriculum targeting Outcomes:

 CC6.1 – Connections to Community

LW6.1 – Life and Work Plan

This presentation is an hour in length and includes a fun Kahoot quiz.  The teachers are provided with a variety of activities to use after the Service Hospitality safety presentation.

Your students will learn:

  1. Safety at Home – Slips, Trips & Falls, Poisoning, Fires & Burns, Choking, Drowning

  2. Safety at School – Backpacks, Computers, Activities, Sharp Objects

  3. Safety while Socializing – Online & Social Media, Bullying
