Safety Pays Off: WCB 2026 Rate Decrease Reflects Industry Progress
Great News for Service Hospitality Members!
The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) has proposed a six-cent decrease to the average premium rate for 2026 – fantastic news for employers across the province!
This reduction keeps Saskatchewan among the provinces with the lowest average premium rates in Canada.
Steady workforce growth and a strong provincial payroll allow costs to be shared across a larger base of assessable earnings, meaning most industries – including yours – will benefit from lower rates next year.
Your Voice Matters!
The WCB’s Preliminary Rate-Setting Webinar on October 28, 2025 kicked off a 30-day public consultation period – your chance to share feedback on the proposed 2026 premium rates.
This consultation is open until November 27, 2025.
We encourage employers to use their voice by emailing: employerservices@wcbsask.com.
If you have questions about the preliminary rates or your individual rate, contact askwcb@wcbsask.com for more information.
Safety Pays Off
Your dedication to safety is making a real difference – and it’s paying off through lower premiums. Every safety initiative, employee training session, and improved claims management process you’ve put in place has helped reduce injuries and costs across your entire industry.
Lower injury rates and claims costs don’t just mean lower premiums – they also strengthen the WCB injury fund, ensuring continued support through:
- Wage-loss benefits for workers unable to work due to injury
- Medical care and rehabilitation to help workers recover and return to work safely
- Claims management and prevention initiatives that keep Saskatchewan workplaces safe
Your Premiums by Industry (S21, S22, and S23)
Your industry’s safety success is something to celebrate! These impressive rate reductions are a direct result of your strong safety performance, commitment to prevention, and effective injury management.
Individual premium rates may be higher or lower depending on your company’s specific claims history and WCB’s experience rating program. Regardless of your discount or surcharge status, these base reductions reflect the collective strength of your industry’s efforts.
Projected premium rates by industry for 2026 are:
- S21 – Community and Social Services: $1.36 (↓6.2%)
- S22 – Restaurants, Catering & Dry Cleaning: $0.79 (↓12.2%)
- S23 – Hotels, Motels & Taxis: $1.48 (↓8.1%)
With reductions of up to 12%, these rates show the real impact of your industry’s dedication to keeping workers safe and supporting quick recovery.
Keep the momentum going! Strong safety programs, ongoing training, and proactive claims management will help your industry keep this positive trend going for years to come.
