First Aid Kit Risk Assessment – Are You Compliant?
If a workplace incident is not prevented, a worker may require immediate first aid attention. Is your organization and first aid kit prepared?
Since April 2021, Saskatchewan employers and contractors must maintain first aid requirements based on the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standard Z1220-24. This standard was regulated Canada-wide as an initiative to remove barriers to internal trade, investment, and labour mobility.
The standard requires the employer/contractor to:
- Have a “competent” person conduct a workplace first aid kit risk assessment.
- Maintain first aid kits with supplies and equipment corresponding to the risk level the risk assessment identifies.
- Train first aid personnel corresponding to the risk level identified by the risk assessment and the number of employees.
- Review annually and when business circumstances change.
If an incident occurs and first aid is required, preparing the necessary first aid knowledge and supplies empowers individuals to act quickly and confidently.
